Self-esteem has very little to do with your actual abilities or characteristics and more to do with how you view yourself. Positive self-image and acceptance play a vital role in happiness, yet many of us struggle to find it.

If you’ve hit the glass ceiling, consider a few tweaks to boost your self-esteem and put yourself back on the path to self-love.

5 Ways to Fall Back in Love with Yourself

1. Stop Criticizing Yourself

Self-esteem is your inner voice; telling you what you can or can’t do.  It molds your perception of who you believe you are. Your inner voice might lead with negative thoughts, such as “This is too hard, I can’t do this” or “I don’t deserve better”, and make you doubt yourself.

Don’t listen.

2. Don’t Undervalue Yourself

Stop these thoughts before they start. Catch yourself in the act and immediately contradict them. You are special and wonderful in your own way.

Allow yourself the room to become a self-confident and content woman who loves everything about herself, including your imperfections.

3. Ditch the Perfectionist in You

Perfectionism might be your greatest challenge. Eliminate the all or nothing approach to life! If you find yourself thinking, “If I don’t succeed, I’m a total failure”, you are being too hard.

One achievement or disappointment doesn’t define or overshadow your successes. Allow yourself points for each accomplishment, in addition to the celebrating the big picture.

4. Don’t Fall into the Comparison Trap

Stop comparing yourself to other people. Focus on your own path. The comparison game is a no win situation; there will always be someone who has more or exceeds in some way.

Focus on your own achievements and recognize how far you’ve come.

Try to intentionally pause every day and give yourself a moment of appreciation. If you absolutely have to have a rival, compete with yourself in a race to achieve your own personal best.

5. Embrace the Sunny Side

Learn how to take the glass half full approach to life and remain optimistic. When you step out of your comfort zone, there will be stumbling blocks along the way, but you will ultimately triumph! Remember, the calm comes after every storm.

Boosting your self-esteem begins with you.

Use every heartbreak, disappointment, and failure as an opportunity to learn. Experience equals learning; and that’s what life is all about.
