What makes a destination romantic?

Is it the mystery? Or maybe the scenery? We believe that romance is created by a combination of factors, including the way a place makes you feel.

We’ve composed a list of 10 Romantic Destinations, with different elements to excite you and your significant other. Regardless of your definition of romance, there is something for everyone.


If you’ve ever seen a pink sand beach, we don’t need to sell you on Crete any further. Greece’s largest island is known for its varied terrain, with mountains and fine sand beaches.

Whether you’d prefer to be a beach bum with your boo or explore ancient places, there’s more than enough romance in Crete.

Visit the Ideon Cave which, according to Greek mythology, is the birthplace of Zeus. Or get lost in the maze-like hilltop in the capital city of Heraklion. There’s so much to do in Crete besides lounging on the beach, though once you see them, you may never want to leave.

KYOTO, JAPAN - APRIL 3, 2014: People enjoy the spring season by partaking in nighttime Hanami festivals. The annual festivals coincide with the seasonal blooming of the cherry blossoms.

The beauty of nature is one of the surest and least expensive ways to create a romantic setting.

Located on the island of Honsh, Kyoto was once the capital of Japan and is now home to thousands of traditional Buddhist temples, beautiful gardens, and imperial palaces.

Hanami, the cherry blossom season, is celebrated every Spring via a countless number of festivals. If possible, take a trip during the season to enjoy the festivities, though Kyoto is beautiful all year round.

It won’t take long to realize why Florence has been dubbed “The Paris of Italy”.

The capital of Tuscany is a great place for a wine tasting with the one you love, after a day of sightseeing. The birthplace of The Renaissance, Florence boasts some of the most famous artwork and architecture in Italy.

Try to catch the sunset over the busy city from a rooftop. You won’t regret it.

Place a lock on one of the love bridges and, legend has it, your love will last forever.
